Tuesday 22nd March 2005.
Today we popped over to the Nurburgring and visited the rather fabulous museum. There are 3 halls to see, the first shows some of the history of the Ring with lots of cars and motorbikes to see, along with a short cinema presentation.
The second hall has a large number of Sony PS/2s, all loaded with various racing games. There is a Subaru simulator and a funky room which rotates at some speed to demonstrate G-forces. Or something. I think they meant inertia
The third hall is sponsored by BMW and tells you all about BMW motorsport.
After all that we zoomed off down to Mulhouse, just over the border in France.
A lot of the motorway has no speed limit, and at one point we clocked 148 m.p.h. The C43 AMG is a stunning car, it just keeps going – it changes up from 3rd gear at 108 m.p.h. and from 4th gear at about 140 m.p.h. In theory the top speed is 155 m.p.h. or 250 k.p.h.
So, we’re at an Etap hotel again (same as last night in Koblenz). Tomorrow we’re hoping to look at the car museum in the morning and make a start on the return journey in the afternoon. We’ll probably go back the same way we came because it’s cheaper (no tolls) and quicker (no speed limits) than going through France.
If we get bored, there’s also a train museum and a museum of electricity. So that’s nice
Jan (using Orange Wi-Fi in the Etap and my laptop).
