Super Spa

Monday 21st March 2005.

From Dunkerque we made good time through Belgium to Spa. This in spite of the fact that I had failed to load any maps for Belgium into the sat-nav system :-(

Spa is a fabulous place! We stopped for lunch at a cafe near the centre of town, which is where I posted my last blog from.

We popped into the Tourist Information centre to get directions to the Spa-Francorchamps F1 circuit. Then we wandered across to the funicular railway and bought return tickets to the spa at the top. We had cold drinks and cakes sitting outside in the sun, looking over Spa. We were fabulous :-)

We drove down to the circuit but it was closed, with not many signs of life.

So, we pressed on to the Nürburgring, where some testing of BTCC-style SEAT cars was going on. We arrived at the Ring about 16.30, having left Dunkers about 10.00. We decided we were too late to do the museum, so we’re going back tomorrow for that.

There’s a Novotel which overlooks the circuit (it’s right next to the grandstand) but it was 130 euros for a single room. So, we’re at the Etap in Klobenz. Which is the most difficult to get to hotel in Europe. Probably. The big problem is it’s nestled in the corner of a junction of 2 major roads (one is a motorway), and Colin couldn’t distinguish between the road the hotel was actually on and the motorway. So, we saw the hotel as we whizzed past, trying to find somewhere to get off the motorway :-)

Jan, mobile blogging.
