Scotland

Last weekend I launched off to Sunny Scotland with the lovely Ruth in Das Loony Mobile (a Mercedes Benz C43 AMG).

Scotland is just one of the most gorgeous places you can go to. The trees were changing colour and everywhere was beautiful.

We stayed at the Malmaison in Glasgow, which was fabulous. If you ask nicely you can get a late checkout – we booked brunch at 13 o’clock and checked out after that. A potential problem is the lack of parking, but as we didn’t arrive until Saturday afternoon and left on Sunday afternoon the on street parking was free.

Saturday night we dined at the U B Chip, which was completely fabulous as usual.

Dr Jan’s Restaurant Poshness test can be summarised as ‘Does Pomerol appear on the wine list?’. The Ubiquitous Chip storms ahead by not simply featuring a Pomerol but by having a whole page of it!

Sunday we drove up to Newtonmore, Aviemore and Coylumbridge, passing the fabulous Laggan Dam (someone else’s pictures here) on the way.

We stayed at the Hilton hotel in Coylumbridge, which seems to be a very family orientated resort.

Monday we went up the Cairngorm Mountain funicular railway. The best part is leaving Ptarmigan station on the way back. It’s completely Thunderbirds :-)

Monday night we just about made it to the Westin Turnberry, which was even more marvellous than I remembered it being the last time. Fortunately we got a free upgrade to a sea view room – one of the benefits of a Gold SPG card.

Tuesday we finally managed to tear ourselves away from Turnberry about 15 o’clock. We got back home just after midnight and after about 420 miles.

The views and the scenery were fantastic. Das Loony Mobile was stunning. Overtaking is so easy – just indicate, squirt and you’re done :-)

All in all a completely fabulous holiday.
