Car Revelations

Today I drove the Xantia to work. Yesterday I took the Benz.

This morning, I enjoyed the smoothness of the ride, the ease of using the radio (with the steering wheel mounted controls for volume, track change, fast ‘wind’ and cd change) and the smart gearbox.

I missed the power, braking ability, automatic wipers (with a rain sensing device) and the feeling of being ensconced. The Benz seat is very low, and the waistline of the car comes up a long way. In the Citroen, you’re perched on top of the seat, and the waistline is relatively low, so you feel much more exposed. So, psychologically you feel much safer in the Benz.

It became clear to me today that I wouldn’t mind selling the Xantia now. The Benz is by no means ideal, but I’m adjusting to it now, and I think I could live with it. As I mentioned above, there are plusses and minusses on each side, but I think overall I’m leaning toward the Benz now. I’ll be taking it to work tomorrow :-)

Having said all that, I’m hoping Martyn will take the DeLorean to Cornwall next month – it’s just possible that it’s more comfortable than the Benz. Although personally I think that’s Martyn’s perception. I don’t think you notice the suspension as much when you’re driving, so we each think our own car is more comfortable :-)

I’d love to go in the DeLorean. I haven’t been in it recently and it’s a fantastic pose!
